Across UK industry – from precision engineering and automotive manufacturing through to agriculture, construction, recycling, defence, food, pharmaceuticals and energy – four operational problems recur almost universally:
- How do you store oils, fuels and chemicals in compliance with the Oil Storage Regulations and COSHH?
- How do you move full drums and IBCs around your site safely, without spillage?
- How do you keep all of the above outdoors, exposed to UK weather, without paint failures, rust or annual replacements?
- How do you consolidate, transport and discharge industrial waste using your existing forklifts, without putting operators on foot beneath suspended loads?
The answer to all four – at any reasonable scale – is Sall Industrial Equipment. This Italian-engineered, CE-marked, ISO 3834-2:2021-certified range of welded steel containment, handling and waste-management products is the European industry standard for sites that take spill prevention, regulatory compliance and operator safety seriously. It is the specification of choice for hundreds of major UK manufacturers, defence contractors, blue-chip distributors, energy providers, agricultural enterprises and councils.
And at Hall-Fast Industrial Supplies – the UK's leading multi-brand industrial supplier since 2006 – you can buy the complete Sall range, backed by Hall-Fast's no-quibble price promise and ISO 9001:2015-certified service.
This comprehensive guide is the most detailed UK reference for Sall Industrial Equipment available online. We'll cover the brand heritage, the certifications, the full product range, the applications, the regulatory context, and exactly why specifying Sall – through Hall-Fast – is the smartest decision your procurement, EHS or facilities team will make this year.
Who is Sall? The Italian Engineering Heritage Behind Justrite Safety Group
Sall is the Italian-engineered specialist brand within the Justrite Safety Group, the global leader in industrial safety, hazardous-material containment and ergonomic handling. The Justrite umbrella brings together century-old engineering brands across North America, Europe and Asia, all built around a shared commitment to the safe storage and handling of dangerous substances.
Within that group, Sall is the steel fabrication specialist – the team behind some of the most rigorously engineered:
- Steel drum spill pallets (galvanized, painted, stainless)
- IBC spill pallets and bunded cabinets
- Bunded drum trolleys
- Forklift tipping skips
- Drop-bottom opening skips
- Polyethylene tipping buckets
- Outdoor drum and IBC storage cabinets
- Bespoke fabricated containment solutions
You'll see Sall products deployed on the most demanding industrial sites in Italy, Germany, France, the Nordics and increasingly across the UK – wherever procurement engineers, EHS managers and facilities directors specify equipment by reference to its certifications and documentation pedigree rather than just its price tag.
Three pillars of Sall engineering
Every Sall product is built around three uncompromising principles:
- Precision steel fabrication using certified, traceable structural steel with full batch documentation.
- Certified welding to UNI EN ISO 3834-2:2021 – the highest tier of European welding quality standards.
- Conformity with international standards – CE marking under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, StawaR compliance for sub-1,000-litre sumps, and individual proof-testing with penetrating liquids for every bunded vessel.
That uncompromising engineering pedigree shows up in every detail: the consistency of weld geometry, the thickness of the powder coating (80–100 microns on painted products), the precision dimensions that ensure drums sit squarely, the smoothness of the castors on wheeled units, the responsiveness of the rope-and-lever release on tipping skips. It's why specifying engineers pick Sall when they can pick anything.

Why Specify Sall? The Certifications Explained
If you're a specifying engineer, EHS manager, procurement professional or facilities director, you don't just need equipment – you need documentation. Equipment that will satisfy an HSE inspector, an environmental regulator, a LOLER examiner, an insurance auditor or a customer-quality assessor needs to come with proper paperwork.
Sall delivers exactly that. Here are the certifications and standards that recur across the range, and what each one means in practice.
UNI EN ISO 3834-2:2021 – the gold standard for welded construction
The ISO 3834 family is the international standard for "Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials." Part 2 is the highest available tier – "Comprehensive quality requirements" – and covers:
- Personnel – welders qualified, tested and traceable to a documented competency register
- Procedure – every weld made to an approved Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
- Materials – steel and consumables traceable batch-by-batch from supplier to finished product
- Equipment – welding plant calibrated and maintained on documented schedule
- Inspection – every assembly inspected; NDT carried out under UNI EN ISO 9712:2022 where required
- Documentation – complete traceability from raw material certificate to finished product despatch note
For a containment vessel that must hold liquid if a primary container fails, this is the only level of welding certification worth specifying. When an auditor asks "How do you know this product won't fail in service?" – the ISO 3834-2 certificate is the answer.
CE Marking under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
Every Sall lifting and handling product carries a CE mark under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The CE mark is the manufacturer's declaration that the equipment meets the essential health and safety requirements of the Directive – including risk assessment, built-in safety features, clear marking of load capacities and provision of safe-use instructions.
For UK buyers, the CE mark (and now also UKCA where applicable) is the document HSE inspectors, LOLER examiners and insurance assessors look for first. It separates professional industrial equipment from generic imported lookalikes with no documented compliance.
StawaR – the European benchmark for sub-1,000-litre sumps
All Sall steel spill pallets and bunded units with sump capacities below 1,000 litres are StawaR-compliant. The German StawaR directive is the de facto European technical reference for sub-1,000-litre steel bunds, setting out detailed requirements for material thickness, weld integrity, drainage arrangements, identification and watertightness. Conformity tells you the product is fit for purpose without further specification work.
Watertight proof-testing with penetrating liquids
Every Sall bunded unit is individually proof-tested with penetrating liquid at the factory before despatch. Penetrating liquid testing is the most stringent leak test available for closed welded vessels – more sensitive than pressure testing alone – and it gives you absolute confidence that the sump will perform exactly as required in service.
Certified, traceable steel
The structural steel used in every Sall product is certified and traceable. Sall can document, batch by batch, the origin and mechanical properties of every plate that went into every weld. This matters for both quality assurance (predictable, repeatable performance) and audit traceability if anything ever goes wrong.
Anti-cut, operator-friendly design
A small detail but a significant one: every Sall product is finished with deburred, anti-cut edges and operator-friendly geometry. A cut on a worker handling a hazardous drum can quickly escalate to an HSE-reportable incident – Sall's design culture systematically eliminates that risk.
Customisation and bespoke options
Beyond the standard range, Sall supports extensive bespoke fabrication on request – custom colours, stainless steel construction, internal PE/PP linings for acids, mesh-walled variants, integrated alarms, application-specific dimensions, and full custom designs for specialist applications. For bespoke requirements, contact Hall-Fast: https://www.hall-fast.com/contact.

Let's now look at each family in detail.
1. Sall Steel Drum Spill Pallets
Sall steel drum spill pallets are the backbone of any compliant drum storage installation. They provide the integrated, watertight secondary containment sump that the Oil Storage Regulations, COSHH, DSEAR and ISO 14001 environmental management systems all require for any site storing oils, fuels or hazardous liquids in 200-litre drums.
Galvanized Steel Nestable Design
The galvanized nestable range is Sall's most distinctive single-family of products. Two key features set it apart:
- Hot-dip galvanizing – the entire welded steel structure is immersed in molten zinc, creating a metallurgically bonded coating across every surface, inside and out, that delivers decades of outdoor service with no maintenance.
- Nestable conical design – the pallets are subtly conical, so multiple empty units can be stacked inside each other for compact storage and transport. For distributors, multi-site operators and procurement teams managing spare-pallet stocks, this is a genuine commercial advantage that compounds year after year.
Available in the nestable range at Hall-Fast:
- Galvanized Steel Spill Pallet for 1 Drum – Nestable Design – single 200-litre drum containment, ideal for outdoor, agricultural, marine and remote-infrastructure applications.
- Galvanized Steel Spill Pallet for 2 Drums – Nestable Design – twin 200-litre drums side by side, the most common UK two-drum configuration.
Larger 4-drum and IBC variants are also available in the nestable line – speak to Hall-Fast on 01623 645645 or via the Contact page for the current range.
Painted Steel Spill Pallets
For indoor and under-cover use where high visibility (typically bright orange) matters and outdoor exposure is limited, the painted (polyester powder-coated) variant is the right specification. The multi-stage powder coating is applied at industrial film thickness of 80–100 microns – substantially thicker than typical industrial finishes – delivering:
- High rust and corrosion resistance for indoor environments
- UV stability for under-cover and external use
- Chemical resistance to common workshop spills
- High-visibility orange finish to support warehouse safety zoning
Stackable Steel Spill Pallets
For sites with large drum populations, Sall also manufactures stackable steel spill pallets with mesh sides, side rails, solid steel walls or galvanized canopy options – allowing multiple loaded pallets to be stacked vertically on storage racking. This delivers maximum drum density per square metre of floor space in chemical stores and warehouses.
Stainless Steel Spill Pallets
For hygiene-critical applications – food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and laboratory use – or for the most aggressive chemicals (concentrated acids, strong alkalis, oxidisers), stainless steel spill pallets are manufactured on request. These deliver the highest standard of hygiene, easiest cleaning, and broadest chemical compatibility of any Sall product.
Internal PE/PP linings for acids and corrosives
All Sall spill pallets – galvanized, painted or stainless – can be supplied with internal polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) sump linings on request. This extends chemical compatibility to acids and aggressive corrosives without compromising the structural strength of the underlying steel.
What the Oil Storage Regulations require
For a single 200-litre drum, the 25% containment rule requires a minimum sump volume of 50 litres. For two drums, the rules require 25% of aggregate (100 litres) or 110% of the largest single drum (220 litres), whichever is greater. Sall spill pallets are sized to comfortably exceed the 25% threshold; for strict 110% compliance, multi-drum bunded cabinets or larger spill pallets are recommended.
Hall-Fast can advise on the right specification for your site. Browse the wider Drum Storage Sumps and Drum Storage categories at Hall-Fast for the complete range.
2. Sall Bunded Drum Trolleys
Where Sall spill pallets handle static drum storage, Sall bunded drum trolleys handle the mobile equivalent – the safe transport of full or part-full 200-litre drums around your site, with continuous spill containment travelling with the drum at every step of its journey.
Painted Steel Bunded Drum Trolleys
The most popular configuration is the painted steel trolley, finished in high-visibility powder-coated orange. Two principal models cover the vast majority of UK applications:
- Painted Steel Bunded Drum Trolley for 1 x 200 L Drum – the workhorse single-drum bunded trolley, with two fixed and two braked swivel castors, integrated sump (typically 70 L+), galvanized pressed-grating drum platform, and ergonomic tubular steel handle.
- Painted Steel Bunded Drum Trolley for 2 x 200 L Drums – twin-drum version for sites moving primary plus secondary products (new oil + waste oil, diesel + AdBlue, etc.) as a single unit.
Both models are watertight-tested to UNI EN ISO 3834-2:2021, exceed the 25% containment rule for the drums they carry, and feature the same anti-cut, operator-friendly design as the wider Sall range.
Galvanized and stainless steel variants
For outdoor and harsh-environment applications, galvanized bunded drum trolleys deliver decades of maintenance-free service. For hygiene-critical applications, stainless steel trolleys are manufactured on request.
Internal PE/PP lining for acids
All bunded drum trolley variants can be supplied with internal PE or PP sump linings for compatibility with acids and corrosive liquids.
Why use a bunded trolley?
A regular sack truck or pallet truck offers zero spill containment. If the drum leaks or splits in transit, you have an immediate environmental incident, a clean-up bill, and potentially a regulator visit. The cost of a Sall bunded trolley is recovered the first time it contains a moderate spill in transit. For sites moving drums regularly, this is essential infrastructure – not a luxury.

3. Sall IBC Spill Pallets and Bunded Cabinets
As sites scale from 200-litre drums to 1,000-litre intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), the containment maths changes dramatically. A single IBC failure releases five times the volume of a single drum failure – which is why dedicated IBC spill pallets and IBC bunded cabinets are an essential specification for any site holding bulk liquid in IBCs.
Sall's IBC range includes:
- Single-IBC spill pallets – with 1,000+ litre containment to satisfy the 110% rule for a single IBC.
- Double-IBC spill pallets – for sites holding two IBCs side by side.
- Galvanized canopies – for outdoor spill pallet weather protection.
- Outdoor IBC bunded cabinets – fully enclosed, lockable, weatherproof outdoor storage including the HFJRS025 Single IBC Unit.
The HFJRS025 Single IBC Outdoor Storage Unit features a 1000-litre collection volume, galvanized pressed grating mesh, lockable door, gas-strut-supported lid, powder-coated orange finish for high visibility, S235JR structural steel construction, and overall dimensions of 1350 x 1660 x 1900 mm – delivering complete outdoor secure containment for one IBC tank.
For the full IBC range, see the dedicated IBC Storage Containers category at Hall-Fast.
4. Sall Outdoor Drum and IBC Storage Cabinets (HFJRS series)
The Sall outdoor storage cabinet range – the HFJRS series at Hall-Fast – is the answer to the constant problem of yard-stored drums and IBCs exposed to UK weather, theft and unauthorised access. These are fully enclosed, lockable, weatherproof steel cabinets with integrated bunded floors, designed specifically for outdoor compliant storage of drums and IBCs.
The standard range includes:
- HFJRS022 – Single Drum Outdoor Storage Unit – external dimensions 870 x 870 x 1600 mm, holding one 200-litre drum, 206-litre integrated bund (more than 100% containment), lockable door, gas-shock supported lid.
- HFJRS023 – Two Drum Outdoor Storage Unit – 1350 x 860 x 1570 mm, holding two 200-litre drums on the grating or on Euro pallets, 214-litre bund.
- HFJRS024 – Four Drum Outdoor Storage Unit – 1350 x 1260 x 1540 mm, holding four 200-litre drums (on grating or on 1200x1200 pallets), 271-litre bund, 1080 mm usable internal height, 1250 mm door passage for pallet handling.
- HFJRS025 – Single IBC Outdoor Storage Unit – 1350 x 1660 x 1900 mm, holding one 1000-litre IBC, 1000-litre bund.
All units share the common Sall HFJRS specification:
- S235JR structural steel construction with continuously welded seams
- Polyester powder coating in high-visibility orange
- Galvanized pressed grating floor (44 x 33, 30 mm height)
- Lockable door for theft and tampering deterrence
- Gas-strut supported lid for safe single-operator access
- Integrated bunded floor providing compliant secondary containment
The HFJRS series turns open-yard drum storage into secure, compliant, weather-protected outdoor infrastructure – with all the documented compliance pedigree of the wider Sall brand.
These cabinets work particularly well alongside the Drum Storage and Hazardous Storage ranges at Hall-Fast.
5. Sall Forklift Tipping Skips
The Sall forklift tipping skip range is the gold standard for industrial waste handling on any UK site with a counterbalance forklift. These are heavy-duty steel containers, fitted with reinforced fork pockets at the base, designed to be lifted, transported and tipped forward to discharge by the forklift operator from the cab – with no need to dismount and no one on foot beneath the load.
The full range by capacity
Sall manufactures forklift tipping skips across a comprehensive range of capacities to suit different operational scales:
- 600 kg models (including the LT300B) – the sweet-spot workhorse for the majority of UK light-manufacturing, retail-distribution, warehousing, hospitality, construction and small-fabrication operations. Browse the Forklift Tipping Skip 600kg Capacity at Hall-Fast.
- 1,000 kg models (LT0450, LT0460, LT0470, LT0500) – the industrial step-up for medium-to-large manufacturing, engineering, foundry work, fabrication shops, construction and waste-management depots. Browse the Forklift Tipping Skip 1000kg Capacity at Hall-Fast.
- 1,040 kg model (LT0750) – a slightly higher-capacity wheeled variant for heavier duty.
- 1,700 kg model (LT1000) – for heavy scrap, foundry residue and heavy metalwork operations.
- 2,000 kg model (LT2000) – for the heaviest scrap and foundry applications, where dense metalwork waste reaches the maximum practical hand-tipping capacity.
Wheeled and skid-mounted configurations
Most Sall tipping skips are available in both fixed (fork-mounted only) and wheeled variants. The wheeled variants use Superlan heavy-duty castors with bearings rated for the loaded skip weight – two fixed and two swivel castors, typically 150 mm diameter, with brake options. Wheeled variants enable manual movement between fill points without involving a forklift.
Mesh-walled and solid-walled variants
For lightweight, bulky waste (cardboard, packaging, foam off-cuts), mesh-walled variants reduce tare weight and let the operator see at a glance whether the skip is full. For dense or wet waste, solid-walled variants are the right specification.
Standard Sall colours for waste segregation
All Sall tipping skips are available in five standard colours that support effortless waste segregation: orange (general/mixed), blue (paper/cardboard), grey (metals/scrap), green (wood/organics) and light blue (plastics/polymers). Bespoke RAL colours are available on request for sites with house style guides, hazard zoning or specific contractor liveries.

For the full lifting and material handling ecosystem, see also Forklift Attachments, Cages & Equipment, Forklifts, Material Handling and Chain Hoists at Hall-Fast.
6. Sall Drop-Bottom Opening Skips
Where forklift tipping skips discharge by pivoting forward, drop-bottom opening skips discharge by opening their floor downwards – delivering a clean, straight-down release directly into a receiving container below. This is the right configuration where:
- Receiving containers are deep or narrow (compactors, balers, vertical chutes)
- A clean single-motion discharge is preferred over a tipping arc
- The full contents need to fall in one go, including bulky or long items
- The skip must reset automatically without operator intervention
The flagship SL154C
The Single Drop Bottom Skip with Skids (SL154C) is the workhorse of the Sall drop-bottom range. With dimensions of approximately 1,500 x 1,000 mm, a certified load capacity of 1,300–1,400 kg, fixed forklift pockets, galvanized skid feet, and a hinged single-door floor with safety lock, it is the natural specification for medium-to-large manufacturing, engineering, foundry, fabrication and waste-management operations.
Single-door and double-door variants
The Sall range includes single-door (one hinged floor panel) and double-door (two hinged panels meeting in the middle) variants. Single-door units are best for general waste and long materials; double-door units provide a wider, more even discharge for bulky items.
Standard 440 mm opening or full opening
The standard floor opening is 440 mm, suitable for most loose waste streams. For sites discharging long, bulky or awkwardly shaped materials, full-opening floors are available on request.
Wheeled and skid-mounted
The drop-bottom range includes skid-mounted variants (the SL154C) for static fill positions moved only by forklift, and wheeled variants for sites needing manual mobility between fill points without involving a forklift.
Mesh-walled variants and internal coatings
For bulky lightweight waste, mesh-walled variants are available. For waste materials that would otherwise stick or jam against internal walls, smooth internal coatings can be specified for complete clean discharge.
Common Sall pedigree
Every drop-bottom skip features:
- Impact-resistant steel sheet construction
- Welding to UNI EN ISO 3834-2:2021
- CE marking under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
- Fixed forklift pockets, fastening chain, safety lock
- Rope-and-lever discharge from the forklift cab
- Automatic floor reset on ground contact
- Standard Sall colours plus bespoke RAL on request
- Stackable when empty (typically 3 high)
For wider waste-handling solutions, see the Skip Trucks, Wheeled Bins and Recycling Bins ranges at Hall-Fast.
7. Sall Polyethylene Tipping Buckets
Alongside its steel forklift tipping skip range, Sall manufactures polyethylene (high-density ecological PE) tipping buckets for lightweight waste streams where steel is unnecessarily heavy. These buckets are particularly well suited to:
- Liquid-bearing waste (where a watertight settling tank is needed)
- Smaller-volume waste collection rounds
- Environments where weight savings translate to easier manual handling
- Operations that need to push-wheel the container manually between fill points
PE tipping buckets feature:
- Watertight settling tank for separating any liquid residues from contents
- Rope-and-tipping device allowing the operator to discharge from the forklift seat
- Optional non-tipping versions for use as a simple push-wheel container
- Lower tare weight than steel equivalents
- Chemical resistance to common workshop liquids
PE buckets complement the steel Sall range and are particularly popular in food, beverage and pharmaceutical operations where hygienic, easy-clean materials are preferred over painted steel.
8. Bespoke Sall Engineering and Custom Solutions
The standard Sall range covers the vast majority of UK industrial requirements. But for unusual sites, specialist substances, or unique operational needs, Sall's engineering department manufactures custom solutions to order.
Bespoke options include:
- Custom paint colours in any specified RAL reference
- Stainless steel construction for any product in the range
- Internal PE or PP linings for acids and corrosive liquids
- Sump alarms for automated leak detection
- Mesh-walled variants of standard solid-walled products
- Reinforced front faces for continuous heavy-duty use
