The Network-Standard Specification for Heavy-Duty Racking

When rack protection is being specified across multiple sites — a 3PL network, a retail DC portfolio, a multi-site FMCG operation, a national automotive parts distribution chain — one product needs to fit every building. The Rack Armour® XL Upright Protector in Safety Yellow is the version most often specified at that level. Sized for front-facing uprights up to 120mm wide (Euro D) and finished in the standard industrial Safety Yellow that integrates with the safety palette of every warehouse, regardless of region, vintage, or fit-out contractor.

It's the protection that gets written into project drawings, fit-out specifications, and procurement frameworks — because Safety Yellow is universal, recognised in every facility, and matches the bollards, kerb protection, and floor markings already in place across the estate.

Our Price Promise: We won't be beaten on price for any authentic Rack Armour® product. Send us a lower online price or written quote and we'll match it. Bulk and project pricing is available for multi-site rollouts — get in touch for a network quote.

Why Safety Yellow Gets Specified at Project Level

When the buying decision moves from a single warehouse manager to a procurement framework or project specification, the colour calculus changes:

  • One colour across every building. Safety Yellow is the standard recognised industrial warning colour. Spec it once and it applies everywhere — no need to vary by site, lighting condition, or local facility manager preference. Hi-Vis Yellow is brighter but reads as a localised choice rather than a network standard.
  • Easier to coordinate with existing infrastructure. Most warehouses across most networks already have Safety Yellow bollards, kerb protection, and line marking. Specifying Rack Armour® in the matching shade keeps the visual safety system coordinated without retrospective recolouring.
  • Cleaner audit trail. Procurement frameworks, BRC and ISO compliance documents, and customer SLAs that reference safety colour standards are usually written around RAL 1023 / standard industrial yellow. Safety Yellow Rack Armour® drops into those specifications without footnotes.

When Hi-Vis Yellow is the better call. For specific zones — dim drive-in racking interiors, freezer aisles with low ambient lighting, or contrast-critical hazard areas — the brighter fluorescent Hi-Vis variant gives a stronger active visual cue. Many networks specify Safety Yellow as the building standard but order Hi-Vis as a zone-specific exception. We can quote both within a single project order.

Built for the Heaviest Racking in the Estate

The Euro D size is most often specified on heavy-duty racking — drive-in and drive-through systems, high-bay pallet racking in larger distribution centres, beverage and FMCG storage with heavy pallet weights, automotive parts warehouses, and bespoke heavy-load systems. Rack Armour® is rated to -40°C, resistant to moisture, corrosion, and most industrial solvents, and engineered for repeat impact resistance over a 15+ year service life.

Same Proven Rack Armour® Performance

The patented HDPE outer shell deflects forklift and MHE impacts while the high-density foam core absorbs the energy before it reaches the racking leg, achieving an independently verified 80% reduction in racking damage. Unlike steel column guards, which transfer impact force into the upright or rip out floor anchors:

  • No floor fixings — clips on by hand, no anchors or drilling
  • No corrosion, no deformation under repeat impact
  • Lifts off in seconds for the rack inspections required under FEM and HSE guidance
  • Independently tested to FEM 10.2.16

Where the XL (Euro D) Size Fits

Euro D 120mm uprights sit on heavy-duty industrial racking — drive-in and drive-through systems, high-bay distribution and fulfilment racking, beverage and FMCG storage where pallets are heavy and turnover is high, automotive and tyre warehousing, narrow-aisle and very-narrow-aisle (VNA) installations, and engineered heavy-load systems. The Safety Yellow finish is the typical specification for multi-site networks, retail distribution portfolios, and 3PL operations standardising rack protection across an estate.

If you're not sure whether you need Euro C or Euro D, measure the front-facing width of the upright in millimetres: above 110mm and up to 120mm sits in the XL bracket.

One Specification, Every Building

If you're protecting racking across more than one site and need a single specification that holds across the estate, the XL Safety Yellow is the version most networks adopt. Add to your order today, or get in touch for a multi-site project quote — we can handle bulk volume, phased delivery, and labelling at the network level.

Why specify Safety Yellow rather than Hi-Vis Yellow at network level? Safety Yellow is the standard recognised industrial warning colour and matches the existing bollards, kerb protection, and line marking found across most warehouses. When a procurement framework or project specification needs one colour that works across multiple buildings, Safety Yellow is the version that integrates without exceptions. Hi-Vis Yellow is brighter and better suited to specific low-light zones — dim drive-in interiors, freezer aisles — and is often specified as a zone-level exception rather than the network default.

Can I order both Safety Yellow and Hi-Vis Yellow on the same project? Yes. Many multi-site rollouts specify Safety Yellow as the building standard and order Hi-Vis Yellow as a zone-specific exception for cold stores, dim picking aisles, or contrast-critical warning areas. Contact us with your specification and we can quote both finishes within a single project order.

Is Rack Armour® FEM tested? Yes. The product has been independently tested to FEM 10.2.16, the European standard for racking impact protection, supporting compliance with current warehouse safety best practice and demonstrable due diligence under HSE guidance.

What size pallet racking does the XL Rack Armour® protector fit? The XL (Euro D) size fits front-facing uprights from above 110mm and up to 120mm wide. This covers heavier-duty industrial racking profiles used in drive-in racking, high-bay systems, and other heavy-load applications.

How do I choose between Euro C (Large) and Euro D (XL)? Measure the front-facing width of your racking upright. Above 100mm and up to 110mm = Euro C / Large. Above 110mm and up to 120mm = Euro D / XL. If your uprights are wider than 120mm, the Rack Armour® range also includes Euro E / XXL.

Do you handle multi-site project orders? Yes. Bulk and project pricing is available for multi-site rollouts. We can handle phased delivery to multiple addresses, network-level invoicing, and bespoke labelling at the project level. Send your specification and site list and we'll prepare a quote.

Does it really clip on without floor fixings? Yes. Each Rack Armour® protector slides onto the upright and clips into place by hand. No anchors, drilling, or contractor visits are required, which is particularly valuable on multi-site rollouts where avoiding contractor coordination across an estate saves substantial cost and time.

How much damage does Rack Armour® prevent? Independent testing shows an 80% reduction in racking damage when Rack Armour® is fitted. The HDPE shell deflects the impact while the foam core absorbs the energy before it reaches the upright structure.

Will it work in cold storage and freezer environments? Yes. Rack Armour® is rated to operate at temperatures down to -40°C without loss of performance. Note that for the dimmest freezer aisles, the Hi-Vis Yellow variant can give a stronger visual cue — many networks specify Safety Yellow as the standard with Hi-Vis as a zone exception.

How long does it last? The XL upright protector has a 15+ year design life and absorbs multiple impacts before needing replacement, depending on the force of each strike. The Safety Yellow finish retains its colour over the full service life without significant fade.

Can I have my company branding on the protectors? Yes. Rack Armour® ships with plain branded labels by default. For project orders, custom branding is available at scale — add requests to order notes or contact us directly for branded labelling on multi-site quotes.

Do you really price match? Yes — our price promise covers every authentic Rack Armour® product. Send a lower online price or a written quote and we'll match it. Project-level pricing is also available beyond the standard price match for multi-site or high-volume orders.

OUR PRICE PROMISE!

We will not be beaten on price on any authentic Rack Armour product, if you find a better price anywhere on the internet or receive a quotation please let us know and we will match it
