Rack Armour® XL Upright Racking Protectors - Hi Vis Yellow (300mm)
When Standard Rack Protection Isn't Built for What You're Doing
Most warehouses run on Euro A, B, or C upright profiles. The XL Rack Armour® exists for the operations that don't.
If your racking carries pallets above 2,500kg per beam pair, supports a structural mezzanine, holds raw material for heavy manufacturing, or sits in a critical-stock environment where rack downtime cascades through the whole operation — you're almost certainly looking at Euro D uprights up to 120mm front-facing width, and you need impact protection engineered for that scale.
The Rack Armour® XL is the specialist size of the range. It's the protector specified for steel and metals stockholding, aerospace component storage, automotive engine and powertrain warehousing, foundries, machine-build operations, and the heaviest cold storage installations across the UK. At 300mm tall and built around the same patented HDPE energy-absorbing geometry as the rest of the range — but sized for the largest standard upright profile — it's the answer when the smaller sizes simply won't fit and steel guards aren't an option.
Why Heavy Industrial Operations Specify Rack Armour® XL
Heavy industrial racking environments share three operational realities that change the impact-protection calculation:
1. The MHE is bigger. Large counterbalance forklifts, very-large-capacity (VLC) trucks, and side-loaders deliver impact energy on a different scale. Steel guards bolted to the floor often fail catastrophically — bending at the weld, shearing fixings, or pulling concrete out of the slab — and the upright still gets damaged.
2. The consequence of damage is bigger. A single damaged Euro D upright in a heavy-duty run can require structural assessment, partial rack offload, and engineer-supervised replacement. Costs routinely run into four figures for a single incident, and rack collapse risk in heavy-duty systems is significantly higher than in medium-duty.
3. The downtime is more expensive. When a heavy industrial operation loses a bay, the entire production schedule, dispatch plan, or contract-storage SLA can be affected. The cost of unprotected racking isn't really the upright — it's everything that depends on it.
Rack Armour® XL absorbs impact energy through the same patented HDPE geometry proven across the range, scaled to fit the largest standard pallet racking upright profile. The result: an 80% reduction in racking damage validated through real-world deployment, with a 15+ year service life that matches the longest-lived heavy-duty racking systems.

The Full Rack Armour® Sizing Range
The five Rack Armour® sizes cover the full standard range of pallet racking upright profiles. Measure the front face of your upright and match to:
- Up to 87mm → Small (Euro A) – light to medium duty
- Up to 100mm → Medium (Euro B) – the most common UK warehouse profile
- Up to 110mm → Large (Euro C) – heavy-duty pallet racking
- Up to 120mm → XL (Euro D) ← this product – extra heavy-duty and industrial
- Larger profiles → XXL – specialist applications
For most heavy-duty operations the Large fits; the XL exists for the step up into extra heavy-duty territory. Critically, fit matters: an undersized protector won't clip on, an oversized one won't grip. Send our team a measurement or a photo and we'll confirm which size you need before you order.
Why Steel Guards Fail in Heavy Industrial Environments
Bolt-down steel rack protectors are a familiar specification in heavy industrial warehousing — and they fail more often than buyers realise. The issue is fundamental physics: steel transfers impact force, it doesn't absorb it. In heavy-duty environments where the impact energies are high to begin with, that force has to go somewhere:
- Into the upright (defeating the point of the guard)
- Into the floor slab (cracking concrete and pulling anchors)
- Into the steel guard itself (bending, shearing, detaching)
Heavy industrial sites that have switched from steel to Rack Armour® consistently report fewer rack repair callouts, less floor damage, and lower total cost of protection over a 5–10 year period. The clip-on fitting also means no drilled holes left in the slab when the racking layout changes — a major operational advantage in dynamic warehouses.
Custom Branding for High-Spec Operations
Rack Armour® XL units arrive with a plain Rack Armour® label by default. Heavy industrial operations often specify branded protectors for:
- Aisle and bay identification on large sites with WMS-driven operations
- Asset register integration for insurance and compliance documentation
- Site-coding across multi-warehouse industrial estates
- Customer-facing reinforcement in contract storage and 3PL facilities serving named clients
Add your branding requirements to the order notes at checkout, or speak to our team for larger projects where consistent labelling across hundreds of units is required.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need the XL size?
Measure the front face of your upright leg. If it's between 111mm and 120mm wide, the XL is your size. This profile is most commonly seen on extra heavy-duty pallet racking, mezzanine uprights, and racking supplied for industrial applications above 2,500kg per beam pair. If you're below 110mm, the Large (Euro C) is the right fit; above 120mm, you'll need the XXL.
Can Rack Armour® XL be fitted to mezzanine support uprights?
Yes — and protecting mezzanine support uprights is one of the most important applications for impact protection, because damage to a mezzanine column has structural consequences far beyond the immediate rack bay. Many heavy industrial operations specify Rack Armour® XL as a dual-purpose solution: protecting both the storage system and the structural integrity of the mezzanine above.
Is the XL suitable for high-bay racking?
Yes. High-bay environments combine tall racking, heavy pallet weights, and reach or turret trucks operating at maximum extension — a combination where impact damage at the base of the upright can compromise the entire column. Rack Armour® XL is widely specified in high-bay installations across UK industrial warehousing.
Will the XL hold up to side-loader and VLC truck impacts?
Rack Armour® is engineered to absorb impacts across the full range of MHE used in heavy industrial environments. While no protector is indestructible against extreme impacts, the energy-absorbing design significantly reduces the damage transferred to the rack — and the protector itself often returns to shape and continues to perform after most impacts.
Does it work in foundries and high-temperature environments?
The HDPE construction is rated for sub-zero performance down to -40°C and continuous service in normal industrial temperatures. For extreme high-temperature applications (foundry hot zones, areas with direct radiant heat), consult our team — Rack Armour® performs across the standard industrial temperature range, but extreme heat exposure should be assessed.
Are these specified by any major UK industrial operators?
Rack Armour® is specified across multiple sectors of UK industry, including major steel stockholders, automotive parts distributors, aerospace component warehouses, food and pharmaceutical cold stores, and 3PL providers handling heavy industrial product. Site references can be provided on request for larger projects.
Can I get a project quotation and rollout plan?
Yes. For larger heavy industrial sites, we provide site surveys, racking-layout-based quantity calculations, project quotations, and phased rollout plans. Contact our team to arrange. Multi-site rollouts and group framework agreements are available for industrial groups with multiple facilities.
How does fitting Rack Armour® affect insurance premiums and rack inspection scoring?
Rack Armour® is a recognised pallet racking protection device tested to FEM 10.2.16. Many UK operators report improved SEMA inspection scores and favourable engagement from insurers when documented impact protection is fitted across high-risk uprights. Speak to our team — we can support you with technical documentation for insurance and compliance purposes.
What's the lead time on bulk orders?
Standard sizes including the XL are held in UK stock for fast dispatch on smaller orders. For large-volume orders supporting full-site rollouts, lead times depend on quantity — typically 1 to 4 weeks for projects in the hundreds-to-thousands of units. Contact our team for current availability.
