Hire the Genie Superlift SL24 from Hall-Fast — the high-reach Superlift built for full industrial installations in warehouses, distribution centres, plant rooms and high-bay commercial spaces. The SL24 lifts up to 295kg to a maximum height of 7.3m — and even at that reach, it still folds to a 2m closed height for transport and fits through any standard 800mm doorway. For most industrial-height installation jobs between 5m and 7.3m, the SL24 is the right choice. (If you need more than 7.3m of reach, see the SL25 — mechanically identical but with an extra 64cm of mast.) Available for daily, weekend and weekly hire, with fast delivery across Nottingham, Mansfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Derby and the surrounding Midlands and Yorkshire regions.

When to choose the SL24

The SL24 is the standard choice for installation work at full industrial ceiling height. At 7.3m of reach, it covers the upper end of most commercial and industrial buildings — anywhere from a tall warehouse mezzanine to a typical distribution-centre eaves height.

Choose the SL24 if:

  • You're working in a warehouse, distribution centre or industrial unit
  • Your installation work is at 5m to 7.3m
  • You're fitting high-bay lighting, industrial sprinkler systems, or industrial HVAC
  • You need to install signage, AV equipment or services at multi-storey heights
  • Your load is under 295kg

Stick with a smaller Superlift if:

  • Your work is at standard commercial ceiling height (3.5m–5m) — the SL15 is more manageable
  • You're working at domestic or small commercial heights — the SL10 gives you more capacity (454kg)
  • Your loads are between 295kg and 363kg at heights up to 5m — the SL15 is the better fit

Step up to the SL25 if:

  • Your work is at the very top of industrial ceiling heights, between 7.3m and 7.94m
  • The SL24 falls just short of the install point — even by a few centimetres

The Superlift range is designed as a height/capacity ladder. Each step up gives you more reach, in exchange for less capacity and more weight to move around. The SL24 and SL25 share the same capacity and weight — only the maximum reach differs.

SL15 vs SL24 — direct comparison

Most customers choosing between Superlift models in the mid-to-tall range are deciding between the SL15 and the SL24:

Rule of thumb: if the highest point you need to reach is comfortably under 5m, the SL15 is easier to handle. If you're working above 5m — and especially anywhere from 6m to 7.3m — the SL24 is the right call. For heights above 7.3m, the SL25 takes over.

The engineering point on the SL24 isn't the 7.3m reach on its own — it's the 7.3m reach combined with a 2m closed height and 800mm width. The lift collapses small enough to travel in a standard van and pass through a standard door, then extends to a height that needs scaffolding to match. That's the design genius of the high-reach Superlifts.

What is the SL24 used for?

The SL24 is built for installation work at industrial heights:

  • Industrial HVAC installation — ducting, air handling units, condensers at full warehouse ceiling height
  • High-bay lighting — LED high-bay fittings, warehouse lighting, fluorescent tubes at proper industrial mounting heights
  • Sprinkler system installation — fire suppression pipework and heads at industrial ceiling levels
  • Industrial signage and branding — large signs at multi-storey or warehouse-front heights
  • Warehouse and distribution centre fit-out — racking beam installation at upper levels
  • Mezzanine installation from below — installing services beneath new mezzanines at full mezzanine height
  • AV and CCTV — high-level camera, projector and display installation
  • Cable tray and containment — installation runs at industrial ceiling heights
  • Cleanroom and laboratory fit-out — high-level services installation
  • Production line installations — overhead equipment at factory ceiling heights
  • Atria and showroom fit-out — high-mounted fixtures, lighting and signage in multi-storey retail spaces

For most installation contractors, the SL24 isn't a daily-use tool — it's the high-reach lift you bring out specifically for the upper-level portions of a larger fit-out job. For the small number of jobs above 7.3m, the SL25 is the next step up.

Key features of the SL24

  • 7.3m maximum lift height — high-reach Superlift for industrial work
  • 295kg lifting capacity — enough for most overhead installation loads
  • 800mm width — still fits through any standard doorway, even at this reach
  • 2m closed height — fits in any standard tall-roof van
  • Manual winch operation — no power supply required
  • One-person operation — load, position, lift and lower without a second pair of hands
  • Rear roller for easier vehicle loading
  • Genie build quality — the industry-standard brand for material lifts
  • Fully inspected before every hire

Practical considerations for the SL24

At 7.3m of reach and 204kg of lift weight, the SL24 deserves a slightly different respect to the smaller Superlifts:

  • Loading and unloading is a two-person job. The rear roller and a ramp help, but at 204kg, plan for two people whenever you're moving the lift in and out of a vehicle.
  • Ground conditions matter more. The taller the lift, the more any base unevenness translates into sway and load instability at the top. A solid, level floor isn't a suggestion — it's a requirement.
  • Overhead clearance for transport. While the 2m closed height fits any standard van, watch out for door frames, low-hanging services and trailing cables when wheeling the lift through a building. At 2m closed, it's still tall enough to catch on overhead obstacles.
  • Plan the lift in advance. Fine-positioning a heavy load at 7.3m is significantly harder than at 4m. Walk the lift route, identify any pinch points, and plan how you'll position the load before you start raising it.
  • The 295kg capacity is firm. Don't assume the SL10's 454kg rating transfers up the range. Every Superlift has its own rated capacity, and exceeding it is dangerous. Using extension forks further reduces the safe SWL because the load centre moves outward — always refer to the load chart.

Safe operation — points specific to the SL24

The SL24 operates the same way as the smaller Superlifts, with extra attention to the taller-mast risk factors:

  1. Set up on solid, level ground — the longer the mast, the more any base instability amplifies into load sway
  2. Engage all outriggers and stabilisers fully — non-negotiable on the SL24
  3. Confirm overhead clearance to 7.3m+ before lifting, including ceiling-mounted services, lighting and structural members
  4. Plan the lift in advance — fine-positioning at 7.3m is much harder than at lower heights
  5. Stay within the 295kg capacity and 460mm load centre
  6. Watch for wind and air movement if working near loading doors, vehicle entries or large openings — even a small breeze affects a load at 7m
  7. Wear PPE — gloves, safety boots, hard hat, hi-vis on commercial sites
  8. Never use the SL24 to raise a person. Material lifts are not personnel lifts. For working at the load height, use a scissor lift, MEWP or scaffold tower.

The SL24 must never be used to raise a person, under any circumstances. For working at height alongside the lift, use a MiTower mobile scaffold tower, scissor lift or appropriate MEWP — and follow current Working at Height regulations.

Frequently asked questions

How high does the Genie SL24 lift? The SL24 has a maximum lift height of 7.3m, putting it firmly in industrial and high-bay working territory. For installation work above 7.3m, the SL25 is the next step up in the Superlift range, reaching 7.94m at the same 295kg capacity.

What's the lift capacity of the SL24? The SL24 lifts up to 295kg, within a 460mm load centre distance. Less than the SL10 (454kg) or SL15 (363kg), but the trade-off is the substantially greater reach.

What's the difference between the SL15 and the SL24? The SL24 reaches significantly higher (7.3m vs 4.98m), but lifts less (295kg vs 363kg) and weighs more (204kg vs 151kg). Choose the SL24 for industrial-height work above 5m; choose the SL15 for commercial ceiling heights below 5m.

What's the difference between the SL24 and the SL25? The SL25 reaches slightly higher (7.94m vs 7.3m). Everything else — capacity, weight, dimensions, load centre — is identical. Choose the SL24 if 7.3m is enough; step up to the SL25 only if your job needs more than 7.3m of reach.

Will the SL24 fit through a standard doorway? Yes — at 800mm wide, the SL24 fits through any standard internal or external doorway, even at this reach. The closed transport height is just 2m, so it travels in any standard tall-roof van.

Can one person operate the SL24? Yes — loading, positioning, lifting and lowering can all be done by one operator. However, the 204kg lift weight makes loading and unloading a two-person job, and we'd strongly recommend a second person on hand for steadying high loads during positioning.

Can the SL24 be used to lift a person? No, under any circumstances. Like all material lifts, the SL24 is rated and certified for materials only. Using it to raise a person is dangerous and breaches Working at Height regulations.

Will the SL24 fit in my van? Yes — the 2m closed height fits in any standard tall-roof van or panel van. The 204kg weight, however, is a two-person lift; the rear roller and a ramp help significantly.

What kind of jobs typically need the SL24? Industrial HVAC, high-bay lighting, sprinkler installation, large signage, mezzanine fit-out from below, warehouse and distribution centre racking installation — anywhere the work is between 5m and 7.3m above floor level.

Do you deliver the SL24? Yes — we deliver across Nottingham, Mansfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Derby, Coventry and surrounding areas, with nationwide delivery available on request. Given the size of the jobs the SL24 typically supports, we frequently deliver further afield.

Is hiring cheaper than buying an SL24? For nearly everyone, yes. The SL24 is a specialist piece of equipment used intensively on specific jobs and idle in between. Hire saves significantly on capital outlay, storage, LOLER inspection costs and ongoing maintenance.
