What is the Genie Superlift SL10?
The Genie Superlift SL10 is a manual winch-operated material lift from Genie Industries — one of the most trusted names in lifting and access equipment worldwide. Designed to safely raise heavy materials to working height for installation, the SL10 combines serious lifting capacity with a compact, manoeuvrable footprint, making it the go-to choice for indoor installation work where larger powered equipment simply won't fit.
It's used wherever you need to lift heavy items to ceiling height without the cost, complication or access constraints of mechanical hoists or powered lifts — quickly, safely and with one person.
Why hire the Genie Superlift SL10?
- Heavy lifting capacity — 454kg comfortably handles ducting, air-con units, RSJs and most overhead installation loads
- Fits through standard doorways — at just 800mm wide, the SL10 goes where bigger lifts can't
- Lifts to 3.49m — covers most commercial and residential ceiling heights for first-fix and second-fix installation
- Manual winch operation — no power supply required; works anywhere on site
- One-person operation — load, position, lift and lower without needing a second pair of hands
- Rear roller for easy van loading — gets in and out of vehicles without lifting gear
- Rugged Genie build quality — designed for repeated use on commercial sites
- Genie-branded reliability — the industry standard for material lifts

What is the Genie Superlift SL10 used for?
The SL10 is built for overhead installation and material handling jobs at low to mid heights. Typical applications include:
- HVAC ducting installation — lifting sections of ductwork into position for fixing
- Air conditioning unit installation — supporting cassettes, ceiling units and large condensers
- RSJ and steel beam installation — lifting beams to position before bolting (combine with Strongboy and Acrow prop support)
- Lighting installations — large luminaires, suspended ceiling lights, industrial fittings
- Suspended ceiling work — lifting frame sections and tiles
- Signage installation — internal and external commercial signage
- Warehouse racking — installing heavy beam sections and pallet rack uprights
- Mezzanine fit-out — lifting materials onto raised floors
- Shopfitting — heavy fixtures, fittings and joinery sections
- Pipework installation — large diameter pipe sections at ceiling height
- Solar panel and PV equipment — lifting panels and frames to roof access points
If a job involves lifting something heavy to ceiling height, indoors, in a space that wouldn't accommodate a scissor lift or powered material handler, the SL10 is usually the right answer.
Genie Superlift SL10 in the field — what makes it different?
A few details from the spec sheet are worth pulling out because they matter on real installs:
- The 800mm footprint is the difference between getting the lift into a finished commercial space or not. Larger material lifts simply won't pass through a standard 762mm–900mm internal doorway with door furniture on it.
- The 460mm load centre distance is generous — useful when you're lifting something with a bit of overhang or an awkward centre of gravity (think air-con cassettes and long duct sections).
- The 2m closed height means the SL10 will travel in any standard van without dropping the mast. Saves serious setup time on multi-stop jobs.
- The rear roller sounds minor but is the kind of detail that matters when you're loading a 118kg lift back into a Transit at the end of a long day.
Why hire from Hall-Fast?
The Genie Superlift SL10 is exactly the kind of tool that makes sense to hire rather than own: it's heavy, it's bulky, and most contractors use it intensively for a few days at a time rather than every day.
When you hire from Hall-Fast you get:
- Fully inspected, well-maintained Genie equipment ready to start work
- Optional accessories — including fork attachments and load platforms (call to confirm)
- Flexible hire periods — daily, weekend and weekly rates
- Fast delivery and collection across the Midlands and Yorkshire
- Expert sizing advice — if you need to lift higher or heavier than the SL10 handles, we'll point you to the right model
- Competitive hire rates with no hidden extras
- Trade and contractor focused — equipment maintained to professional site standards
Safe operation — the basics
The SL10 is straightforward to operate but, like all lifting equipment, deserves respect:
- Inspect the lift, winch cable and load attachment before use
- Set up on solid, level ground — uneven ground is the most common cause of material lift accidents
- Engage all outriggers/stabilisers as fitted to the unit
- Load within the rated capacity — 454kg maximum, distributed within the 460mm load centre
- Keep the load balanced and secured — don't lift loose or unbalanced loads
- Never stand under a raised load — the SL10 is a material lift, not a personnel lift
- Lower fully before moving the lift to a new position
- Wear PPE — gloves, safety boots, hard hat where required
Material lifts are not personnel lifts. Never use the SL10 to raise a person, even briefly, even with a platform. For accessing the work at height, use appropriate access equipment such as a mobile scaffold tower, podium step or scissor lift.

Frequently asked questions
What is the lift capacity of the Genie Superlift SL10? The SL10 lifts up to 454kg, to a maximum height of 3.49m, with a load centre distance of 460mm.
Will the Genie SL10 fit through a standard doorway? Yes — at 800mm wide, the SL10 fits through almost any standard internal or external doorway. It's specifically designed for indoor installation work where larger material lifts won't fit.
Does the SL10 need a power supply? No — it's a manual winch-operated lift, so it works anywhere on site without electrical or pneumatic power.
Can one person operate the Superlift SL10? Yes — loading, positioning, lifting and lowering can all be done by one operator. For very heavy or awkward loads, a second person to steady the load during positioning is helpful.
Can I use the SL10 to lift a person? No. The Genie Superlift SL10 is a material lift, not a personnel lift. It must never be used to raise a person, even briefly. For working at height, use a mobile scaffold tower, podium step or scissor lift.
Can I lift an RSJ with the SL10? Yes — within the 454kg capacity and 460mm load centre. Most domestic and small commercial RSJs fall well within this. For lifting and positioning RSJs in load-bearing wall removals, the SL10 is typically used alongside Strongboy masonry supports and Acrow props. Always confirm beam weights before lifting.
Will it fit in my van? Yes — the 2m closed height means it travels in any standard van without dropping the mast. The 118kg weight means a two-person lift or use of the rear roller for ramp loading.
Do you deliver the Genie Superlift SL10? Yes — we deliver across Nottingham, Mansfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Derby, Coventry and surrounding areas, with nationwide delivery available on request.
How long should I hire a Superlift for? For a typical HVAC, air-con or RSJ installation job, a day or weekend hire is often enough. Multi-day fit-outs typically take a weekly hire. Call us for a tailored quote.
Is hiring cheaper than buying a Genie Superlift? Unless you're a full-time HVAC or installation contractor using one daily, yes. A Superlift is a substantial capital purchase that sits idle between jobs; hiring saves on storage, maintenance, LOLER inspection costs, and capital outlay.
