When your off-grid power needs go beyond what a portable plug-in inverter can handle, the Draper IN1000 is the answer. Delivering 1000W of continuous 230V AC power — with a 2000W peak capacity for high start-up loads — this hard-wired inverter is built for permanent or semi-permanent installation in caravans, motorhomes, boats, HGVs and off-grid builds. Two standard UK three-pin sockets, a USB charging port, a cooling fan, an LED power indicator and a base fixing facility make this a genuinely capable, installation-grade power solution for serious off-grid and mobile power applications.

Key Features & Benefits

1000W Continuous Power with 2000W Peak Capacity

The IN1000 delivers five times the continuous output of the IN200/USB and more than double that of the IN400/USB, opening up a far wider range of appliances and simultaneous loads. The 1000W continuous rating handles demanding equipment such as larger power tools, projectors, small microwaves, electric blankets and multiple devices running at once. The 2000W peak capacity ensures the inverter copes comfortably with the significant start-up surge that motors, compressors and power tools can produce before settling to their running wattage.

Designed for Hard-Wire Installation

Unlike the IN200/USB and IN400/USB — which connect via battery clamp leads for portable use — the IN1000 is designed to be hard-wired directly into a 12V supply. This makes it the right choice for permanent or long-term installations where a tidy, secure and reliable connection is required. Hard-wiring also allows the inverter to draw the higher currents that a 1000W output demands more safely and efficiently than a clamp-lead connection. A base fixing facility allows the unit to be securely mounted in position.

Two Standard UK Three-Pin Sockets

Where the IN200/USB and IN400/USB provide a single output socket, the IN1000 steps up with two standard UK three-pin sockets — allowing two mains appliances to run simultaneously, up to the 1000W combined continuous limit. This dual-socket arrangement is particularly valuable in a caravan or motorhome where multiple appliances may be in use at the same time, and in HGV or van conversions where the inverter effectively serves as a fixed mains distribution point.

USB Charging Port

Alongside the two mains sockets, a USB port allows simultaneous charging of mobile phones, tablets, MP3 players and other USB-powered devices without occupying a mains socket or requiring an additional adaptor. All three outputs — two mains sockets and the USB port — can be used concurrently within the inverter's rated capacity.

Cooling Fan for Sustained High-Load Operation

Running at 1000W generates heat, and sustained high-load operation without adequate cooling would shorten the lifespan of any inverter. The IN1000 includes an integrated cooling fan that manages operating temperature during extended use — an important design feature at this power level that the lower-wattage models in the range don't require.

On/Off Switch with LED Power Indicator

A dedicated on/off switch allows the inverter to be shut down cleanly without disconnecting from the 12V supply — important in a permanent installation where the inverter is hard-wired in place. The LED power indicator provides instant visual confirmation that the unit is active, useful in installations where the inverter is mounted in a cabinet, locker or engine bay rather than in plain sight.

Overload Shutdown and Alarm

At 1000W output, the consequences of an overload are more significant than at lower power levels. The IN1000 is fitted with both an overload alarm — which alerts you when the load approaches the limit — and an automatic overload shutdown that cuts the output if the load exceeds safe operating parameters. Together these features protect both the inverter and the connected appliances from damage.

Reverse Polarity Protection

Hard-wiring a high-current inverter incorrectly could cause serious damage to the unit and the vehicle or vessel's electrical system. Reverse polarity protection provides a safety net against incorrect installation, safeguarding the inverter and your 12V system if the positive and negative connections are accidentally transposed during installation.

Base Fixing Facility for Permanent Mounting

A built-in base fixing facility allows the IN1000 to be securely bolted or screwed into position within an installation, preventing movement during transit and ensuring the unit stays in place in a boat, HGV cab, caravan locker or van conversion. Permanent mounting also reduces wear on the hard-wire connections over time by eliminating vibration-induced movement.

Who Is This For?

The Draper IN1000 is the right choice for:

  • Caravan and motorhome owners undertaking a permanent inverter installation to power a wider range of appliances and multiple devices simultaneously
  • Boat and narrowboat owners building out a 12V-to-mains power system capable of running onboard appliances reliably over extended periods
  • HGV drivers and fleet operators installing a permanent 230V power source in a cab for tools, appliances and device charging during rest periods
  • Van converters and campervan builders who need a capable, mountable inverter as the heart of their off-grid electrical system
  • Off-grid and remote site workers who require a reliable, high-output power source from a 12V battery bank or vehicle supply
  • Anyone upgrading from a 200W or 400W inverter who has outgrown a lower-capacity unit and needs significantly more power headroom

What Can a 1000W Inverter Power?

The IN1000's 1000W continuous output handles a considerably broader range of appliances than lower-capacity models. As a general guide:

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the IN1000 need to be hard-wired or can I use battery clamps? The IN1000 is specifically designed for hard-wire connection to a 12V supply. At 1000W output the current draw is substantial — hard-wiring via appropriately rated cable and fusing is the correct and safe installation method. Battery clamp connections used with lower-wattage inverters are not appropriate for an inverter of this capacity. If you need a portable clamp-lead inverter, the IN200/USB or IN400/USB are better suited.

What cable and fuse rating do I need for hard-wiring the IN1000? At 1000W from a 12V supply, the inverter can draw in excess of 80A under load. Cabling and fusing must be appropriately rated for this current — typically 10mm² or larger cable with an inline fuse rated to match, positioned as close to the battery as possible. We recommend consulting a qualified auto or marine electrician to confirm the appropriate specification for your specific installation.

What is the difference between the IN1000 and the IN400/USB? The IN1000 provides 1000W continuous and 2000W peak output versus the IN400/USB's 400W continuous and 800W peak. The IN1000 is designed for permanent hard-wire installation, features two UK mains sockets, a cooling fan, an on/off switch with LED indicator, and a base fixing facility for secure mounting. The IN400/USB is a portable clamp-lead unit with a single socket suited to lighter, less permanent use.

Can both mains sockets be used simultaneously? Yes — both three-pin sockets can be used at the same time, provided the combined wattage of all connected appliances does not exceed 1000W continuous. The USB port can also be used simultaneously within this overall limit.

What triggers the overload shutdown? The automatic shutdown activates when the total load on the inverter exceeds safe operating parameters — typically when the combined draw of connected appliances approaches or surpasses the 1000W continuous rating for a sustained period, or when the 2000W peak rating is exceeded. The overload alarm will sound first as an advance warning before shutdown occurs.

Will this drain my leisure battery quickly? At full 1000W output, the IN1000 draws approximately 83–90A from a 12V supply, accounting for inverter efficiency losses. A 100Ah leisure battery running at full load would be exhausted in approximately one hour under these conditions. Real-world use at lower loads extends this considerably, but for sustained high-load use a battery bank of adequate capacity and a means of recharging — solar, shore power or engine alternator — is strongly recommended.

Is modified sine wave suitable for all my appliances? Modified sine wave is compatible with the vast majority of everyday appliances including laptops, televisions, LED lighting, fans, phone chargers, most power tools and many small kitchen appliances. For highly sensitive equipment — certain medical devices, precision audio gear or some specialist electronics — a pure sine wave inverter is more appropriate. For typical caravan, motorhome, boat and HGV applications, modified sine wave covers the vast majority of use cases.
