The Draper SH/KIT 10 Piece Slide Hammer Kit is an indispensable workshop tool for any garage or professional automotive workshop dealing with the removal of stubborn, seized, or press-fitted components. Where conventional pullers and standard hand tools lack the impulsive force needed to break the grip of corrosion, interference fits, or simple mechanical stubbornness, a slide hammer delivers a sharp, controlled blow-force extraction that gets the job done cleanly — without the collateral damage that improvised hammering or excessive prying can cause.

Supplied complete in a blow mould storage case with display sleeve, the SH/KIT arrives as a fully organised, professional package with every attachment immediately to hand and clearly stored. From bearing and seal removal to dent pulling, bush extraction, and a wide range of other garage and workshop applications, the ten-piece configuration ensures that the right attachment is always available for the task at hand.

How a Slide Hammer Works

The operating principle of a slide hammer is elegantly simple but highly effective. The user attaches the appropriate hook, screw, or adaptor to the component to be removed, then slides the weighted hammer mass sharply along the shaft towards the handle end, generating a powerful inertial impact force that is transmitted directly through the attachment into the stuck component. This repeated impulsive loading is far more effective at breaking the grip of corrosion and interference fits than steady pulling force alone — and because the force is applied axially rather than at an angle, the risk of distorting or damaging surrounding components is significantly reduced.

The Slide Hammer Body

The centrepiece of the SH/KIT is the slide hammer with 470mm shaft and 2.3kg sliding weight — a well-balanced combination of reach and mass that provides substantial extraction force while remaining controllable and easy to use in the confined spaces typical of vehicle underbody and engine bay work. The M16 x 1.5 threaded end accepts all nine attachments in the kit as well as a wide range of third-party slide hammer accessories available on the market, giving the tool exceptional long-term versatility beyond the supplied kit contents.

The Nine Attachments — Every Application Covered

The true breadth of the SH/KIT's capability comes from its nine purpose-designed attachments, each serving a different extraction or manipulation requirement:

Large Flat Hook — The large flat hook is ideal for engaging behind bearing races, seals, and other components with a lip or edge that can be hooked from behind. The larger profile is suited to bigger components where a small hook would not provide sufficient purchase.

Small Flat Hook — The small flat hook performs the same function as its larger counterpart but is designed for use in tighter spaces and on smaller components — useful for accessing recessed bearing housings, small seals, and components in restricted locations where the large hook will not fit.

Large Round Hook — The round profile of this hook is specifically designed to engage within the bore of components such as bearing inner races, bushes, and tube sections where a flat hook would not seat securely. The larger size handles bigger bore diameters and heavier components.

Small Round Hook — Matching the large round hook in function but scaled for smaller bore diameters, the small round hook extends the kit's capability to the finer end of bearing and bush removal work — ideal for small-diameter pilot bearings, thin-walled bushes, and similar precision components.

Screw Holder — The screw holder attachment accepts the self-tapping screw and tapered screw included in the kit, allowing the slide hammer to be used for pulling components that can be engaged by driving a screw directly into them — a technique commonly used for removing grease caps, dust caps, rubber bungs, blind hole bushes, and panel dents where a hook-type attachment cannot gain purchase.

Self-Tapping Screw — Used in conjunction with the screw holder, the self-tapping screw drives into softer materials and components, creating the anchor point through which the slide hammer's extraction force is applied. Particularly useful for removing plastic plugs, rubber components, and soft metal caps.

Tapered Screw — The tapered screw provides a self-centring threaded engagement for use in pre-drilled or threaded components, offering a more secure and better-aligned pull point than the self-tapping variant in appropriate applications.

Adaptor — The adaptor extends the compatibility of the slide hammer to additional attachment types and third-party accessories, ensuring the SH/KIT can be expanded to meet specific workshop requirements beyond the standard kit contents.

Blow Mould Storage Case with Display Sleeve

All ten components — the slide hammer body and nine attachments — are housed in a purpose-made blow mould storage case with display sleeve. The blow mould format provides rigid protection for the tools during storage and transport, with each component sitting in a formed recess that prevents movement, rattling, and wear. The display sleeve adds a professional presentation finish and clearly identifies the kit contents.

For a tool with multiple small attachments, proper case storage is genuinely important. A slide hammer kit with missing attachments rapidly loses its versatility — the case ensures every component is accounted for and protected between uses.
