The Draper DSWP1000A is a professional-specification deep water submersible well pump engineered for applications where standard surface pumps and shallow submersibles simply cannot reach. Capable of pumping from up to 15 metres below ground level, delivering 91 litres per minute to a maximum head height of 40 metres, and weighing just 3.6kg despite its multi stage 1,000W motor, this is a serious pump for serious water supply challenges.

Whether supplying a rural property from a private borehole, drawing from a deep well for agricultural irrigation, boosting water supply to elevated storage tanks, or providing high-volume pressure pumping for commercial applications, the DSWP1000A performs where alternatives fall short. A float switch automatically protects the pump from dry running, thermal overload protection safeguards the motor, a 15-metre cable with approved plug reaches from the bottom of a deep installation to a surface-level mains connection, and an integral carry handle makes lowering and retrieving the pump manageable by one person. Backed by a Draper 12-month warranty.

Key Features & Benefits

Pumps from Up to 15 Metres Deep

The defining capability of the DSWP1000A is its submersion depth. Where surface pumps and shallow submersibles are limited by suction head (typically 6–8 metres), the DSWP1000A submerges directly into deep wells and boreholes up to 15 metres below the water surface. This opens up access to deep groundwater sources that cannot be reached any other way – private wells, boreholes, deep cisterns, and underground reservoirs that are inaccessible to any surface-mounted or shallow submersible pump.

Multi Stage Pressurising – 40m Maximum Head

The multi stage design passes water through multiple impeller stages sequentially, building significantly higher pressure than a single-stage pump can achieve. The result is a maximum head height of 40 metres – enough to supply water to the top of a multi-storey building from a deep underground source, pressurise a large-scale irrigation system, or overcome significant pipe resistance across a long distribution run. Combined with the 15-metre submersion depth, the DSWP1000A covers a total vertical range of up to 55 metres from pump to delivery point.

91L/min Maximum Output

At 91 litres per minute (5,460 litres per hour), the DSWP1000A delivers high-volume flow for a deep well pump of this size. Supply a property's entire water demand, feed a large-scale irrigation network, fill elevated storage tanks efficiently, or provide sustained high-flow output for commercial or agricultural applications. Output and head are inversely related – at maximum head the flow reduces, and at lower head the full 91L/min is achievable.

Float Switch – Automatic Dry-Run Protection

A float switch monitors the water level around the pump and automatically cuts power when it drops below the safe minimum operating level. For a deep well or borehole installation where monitoring the water level is impractical, this automatic protection is essential. Running a submersible pump dry destroys the motor and seals rapidly; the float switch prevents this without any intervention needed from the user.

Thermal Overload Protection

If the motor temperature exceeds safe operating limits – from sustained high-load operation, a restricted impeller, or elevated ambient water temperatures – thermal overload protection cuts power automatically before damage occurs. Once cooled, the pump can be restarted. A critical safeguard for a pump installed in a remote or difficult-to-access location.

Just 3.6kg – Remarkably Light for a 1,000W Multi Stage Pump

At 3.6kg, the DSWP1000A is the lightest pump in the Draper range by a considerable margin, despite producing 1,000W of multi stage pumping power. This makes it genuinely manageable for a single person to lower into and retrieve from a well or borehole via the integral carry handle, without requiring lifting equipment or a second person. For solo installation and maintenance, this weight advantage is significant.

15-Metre Cable with Approved Plug

The 15-metre cable is matched to the pump's 15-metre maximum submersion depth, allowing it to reach a surface-level mains connection from the bottom of a deep installation. The approved mains plug means no wiring is required – plug into an outdoor-rated RCD-protected circuit and the pump is operational. For permanent borehole installations, the cable can be connected to a fixed supply at the surface.

Integral Carry Handle

A carry handle built into the pump body provides a secure point for lowering the pump into a well or borehole and retrieving it for maintenance or seasonal storage. At 3.6kg, one person can manage this comfortably, and the handle also simplifies transport between sites.

Draper 12-Month Warranty

The DSWP1000A is backed by a Draper 12-month warranty, providing assurance on a pump that may be installed in a remote or difficult-to-access location where failure would be costly and disruptive.

Who Is the Draper DSWP1000A For?

Rural Properties with Private Wells or Boreholes – Draw water from a private well or borehole to supply a property's domestic water demand, garden irrigation, or livestock water system. The 15-metre submersion depth accesses groundwater sources unreachable by surface pumps, and the float switch ensures automated, unattended operation.

Agricultural & Smallholding Water Supply – Supply irrigation systems, animal troughs, and wash-down points from a deep borehole or well on agricultural land, without mains water connection to remote parts of the holding. The 91L/min output sustains high-demand agricultural use.

Elevated Water Storage Systems – Pump from a deep underground source to a roof-level header tank or elevated storage vessel. The combined 15m submersion depth and 40m head height provides a total vertical range that suits multi-storey and elevated tank installations.

Off-Grid & Self-Sufficient Properties – An essential component of an off-grid water system, drawing from a borehole or well to supply a property independently of mains water. The automatic float switch and thermal protection make it reliable for unattended long-term operation.

Commercial & Industrial Water Supply – High-volume pumping from deep sources for commercial horticulture, light industrial processes, and facilities that require reliable independent water supply.

Emergency & Backup Water Supply – A deep well pump provides an independent water source during mains supply failures or in areas with unreliable mains infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a well pump and a standard submersible pump? A standard submersible pump (such as the Draper WBP2A water butt pump) is designed for shallow, open installations – water butts, ponds, and sumps near the surface. A deep water well pump like the DSWP1000A is engineered to operate submerged at significant depth in narrow-bore wells and boreholes, withstanding the water pressure at depth and delivering water to the surface against substantial head. The DSWP1000A can operate 15 metres below the water surface; a standard submersible cannot.

What borehole or well diameter does the DSWP1000A require? The pump diameter must fit within the borehole or well casing. Check the pump's body dimensions against your installation before purchase. Most residential boreholes in the UK are 100–150mm (4–6 inch) internal diameter; verify your borehole specification with your driller before selecting a pump.

Does it require professional installation? For permanent borehole and well installations, professional installation by a qualified pump engineer or groundwater specialist is strongly recommended. This ensures correct sizing for your water source, proper sealing and waterproofing of the installation, compliance with any Environment Agency requirements for groundwater abstraction, and optimal pump performance and longevity.

What is the total vertical range of the pump? The DSWP1000A can submerge up to 15 metres below the water surface, and deliver water to a maximum head height of 40 metres above the pump. In a deep borehole installation with the pump at 15m depth, it can therefore supply water to a delivery point up to 55 metres above the bottom of the installation – covering most multi-storey residential and agricultural applications.

How does the float switch work in a borehole? In a borehole installation, the float switch is positioned to sense the water level around the pump. As water is abstracted and the level drops towards the pump inlet, the float descends and triggers the shutoff before the pump runs dry. This is particularly important in boreholes where the natural recharge rate of the aquifer may be slower than the pump's maximum output – the float switch prevents the pump from outpacing the recharge and running dry.

What type of water can it pump? The DSWP1000A is rated for clean water with a maximum particle size of 1mm, typical of groundwater from wells and boreholes. It is not suitable for pumping dirty water, silt, or surface water carrying debris.

For use in areas where a large head height or high pressure is required. Will pump up to 15m deep. Fitted with thermal overload protection and a float switch which automatically turns the pump off when the water level has dropped. 15m (approx.) cable and approved plug.
